Binh Phuoc’s cashew industry aims to export 1 billion USD

(BP Portal) - Binh Phuoc is considered the "Cashew nuts capital" of Vietnam with the largest area and output in the country. This is considered to be the World's number 1 cashew processing center. It is also the only local location in the country that has been recognized as providing geographical indication for cashew trees. According to the Department of Statistics of Binh Phuoc province, at its peak, Binh Phuoc has over 200,000 hectares of cashew, currently 141,595 hectares, the output of raw cashew nuts is over 200,000 tons/year. Cashew tree is the main crop in the districts: Bu Dang, Bu Gia Map, Phu Rieng, Bu Dop... There are many different varieties, but the quality of cashew here is considered number 1 in the world.

Cashew quality is crystallized by the factors: variety, modalities of care, especially Pyongyang, and climate. Cashew trees in Binh Phuoc are grown on infertile basalt red soil with two distinct, sunny and rain seasons each year.  Most of the cashew material areas in Binh Phuoc are grown naturally, the trees themselves absorb nutrients in the soil to grow.  Every year, cashew growers used only a certain amount of organic fertilizer. Nearly 100% of the area is not used for growth stimulants during seed production. There are 280 enterprises in the province and more than 400 facilities in district processing, of which about 30 enterprises are involved in exported. In addition, Binh Phuoc has established more than 40 production cooperation groups with over 500 members. In order to produce exports of 1 billion USD/year by the industry, Binh Phuoc is building its own brand, focusing on improving the added value of product chains through deep processing, production of goods, and building mechanisms to encourage entrepreneurship and cashew growers to strengthen stronger relationships.

Binh Phuoc has planned the development of the provincial cashew nuts sector to 2025 and vision to 2030 with the goal of stabilizing the area of the floating cashew tree in the direction of intensive and interlinear farming; Associated production with the cashew industry; Application of advanced techniques to diversify articles of the seed and seeds, to actively control quality, overcome the state of commercial fraud, ensure food hygiene and safety; Enhancing competitiveness and developing Binh Phuoc cashew  brands in domestic and international markets.

In particular, the development of the cashew industry is sustainable on the basis of fully improving the close links between production - procurement - processing and consumption.
